287,850.
Breast cancer diagnoses have totaled 287,850, or 15%, of all new cancer cases this year, according to the National Cancer Institute.
October 1st is a critical time of year, the catalyst for fundraising campaigns to bolster organizations that fight this disease year-round, advocating for self-testing, routine check-ups, and providing essential education. One of the most pivotal needs, though, is research.
Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation has established itself as a leader in breast cancer research and, for the second year in a row, we are partnering with the Chicago-based nonprofit for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation
The Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation (LSBCF) was founded by devoted friends in honor of Lynn Sage, who lost her battle with the disease at the age of just 37. Since then, the foundation has been committed to funding innovative breast cancer research in the fight to end breast cancer.
To date, LSBCF has raised over $40 million dollars to fund essential, groundbreaking breast cancer research.
The Lynn Sage Scholars program is a key pillar of their research initiative. Through the program, grants are awarded to early-career researchers who are working on novel and innovative projects with the potential to make a significant impact on breast cancer prevention, treatment, and care. This program not only supports promising young researchers—it helps train the next generation of breast cancer experts.
Even more notable, though, is the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium.
While the organization is Chicago-based, LSBCF’s impact is far-reaching due to the symposium. As described by Executive Director Pam Lewis:
Now in its 24th year, we are proud to bring internationally recognized faculty together to present and discuss the latest in clinical care and research. Our grants allow young investigators and clinicians from around the US and around the world to attend and learn from leaders in the field. This next generation of specialists that we are supporting will drive advancement and excellence from the lab to the beside – a core part of our mission in research and education.
Pam Lewis, Executive Director of Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation
The determination of Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation to do good, to find a solution to this pervasive disease, is something we could not be more proud to support.
Verano + LSBCF
Last year, we had the absolute honor of making the largest donation to LSBCF from a cannabis company. With the help of MÜV and Zen Leaf dispensary visitors, we raised $150,000 for the incredible organization. This donation supported a host of LSBCF’s initiatives, says Pam Lewis, Executive Director:
We are grateful for Verano’s incredible gift in 2021 that helped to fuel our mission of research and education. We were able to give two additional research grants, allowing Lynn Sage to grant over $600,000 in research in 2022. In addition, we also continue to support key educational initiatives like the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium where we bring young investigators and clinicians from around the country and world to learn from the best and brightest minds in diagnostics, therapies, and care.
We’re hoping to drive the same impact this year. Visit Zen Leaf or MÜV Dispensaries to see how you can support Lynn Sage, or donate directly at their website.
